Nazema Nevin Momand graduated from Malalai High School in 1976 and earned her Master’s degree in the former Soviet Union by 1982. In 1983, she and her husband, Dr. Waheed Momand, settled in California after leaving Afghanistan.
Nazema began her career as an anchorwoman for Afghanistan National Radio and later spent over 30 years as a social worker with the Alameda County Public Health Department. She is also known as the host of Ashpazkhana with Nazema Momand, a popular cooking show on Noor TV.
A dedicated community leader, Nazema has served as a Board Member of the Afghan Women Association since 1994 and joined the Afghan Coalition in 1998. In 2021, she expanded her efforts, joining the Executive Council of the Grand National Coalition of Afghanistan (GNCA).
Nazema and her husband live in the Bay Area, California, enjoying time with their two children and three grandchildren.
