Microenterprise Project

Since 2007, the Afghan Coalition’s Microenterprise Program has been empowering Afghan and other refugee communities by providing training in handicrafts, business skills, and English. We support immigrants and refugees who often face barriers such as lack of certifications, licenses, or language skills needed for employment in the U.S.

Our program helps Afghan women achieve self-sufficiency by building income opportunities based on their talents and experience, offering a path to financial stability and personal fulfillment beyond low-wage employment.

Through the Micro-enterprise Program the Afghan Coalition Offers the Following Classes:

Community Kitchen

The Afghan Coalition Community Kitchen, a key part of the City of Fremont-funded Microenterprise Program, has served the community since 2012. It provides a space for community members to host events and sell signature Afghan dishes.

During COVID-19, the kitchen transformed into a food bank, distributing weekly food boxes to hundreds of families. It also served as an off-site office, helping clients access public benefits and resources during office closures.

The Community Kitchen offers valuable services, including:

  • Training in nutritious cooking
  • Pop-up cultural food demonstrations
  • Space for aspiring food entrepreneurs
  • Cultural events showcasing traditional Afghan cuisine
